Montana Private Ranch Hunts

Extreme Outdoor Adventures is proud to present a unique opportunity. We have located a series of private ranches located near White Sulpher Springs Montana and in Eastern Montana east of Billings. In order to overcome low success rates associated with public land hunting we have tried to locate properties where hunting pressure can be controlled, there is a variety of elevations so hunting can be adjusted to weather patterns, there is no wolf population, and game populations our plentiful.

The 70,000 acres of private ranch land near White Sulpher Springs is home to one of the highest concentrations of elk in the state of Montana. Hunts have been conducted in this area since 1967 with a success rate ranging between 65% and 94% on elk over this period of time. The ranches in this area are home to some of the most panoramic scenery in Montana. In this area clients may choose to hunt elk, white tail, mule deer, or antelope. Average elk range in size from 280-320. Average harvested whitetail average in the 130-140 range. The average mule deer is 140-170. These are average scores of these animals in this area. It is possible to harvest a larger animal but clients need to understand that these numbers represent the norm not the exception. The ranches in this area also have some beautiful trout streams and lakes. The lakes and rivers in this area are stuffed full of trout and due to the scenic nature of this region this is a great place for a summer trip. Hunters will fly into Bozeman, Montana where they will be picked up at the airport. Accommodations are clean and comfortable.

Extreme Outdoor Adventures also has a number of private ranch hunting opportunities located east of Billings. Between Miles City and Billings the provider we work with has close to 200,000 acres of private land. The Provider has been in business for close to 40 years and has produced some of the largest mule deer, elk, and whitetail trophies produced in Montana. Much of the ranch land under lease runs along the Yellowstone and Big Horn Rivers. Habitat is a mixture of alfalfa pasture and river bottom in the low country and grazing pasture with broken timber in the higher elevations. This part of Montana is not nearly as steep as central or western Montana. Given the rolling nature of this country and the access to roads this is a good hunting area for older hunters or hunters needing the assistance of a vehicle. The mixture of river bottom and alfalfa pasture habitats also supports a sizable population of whitetail deer. In recent years Montana has become well known for being a great area to hunt quality whitetails. On some of the ranches that I have been on it is not unusual to see 200 whitetail deer in the course of a day in the alfalfa pastures along the rivers. There is an excellent opportunity to harvest whitetail in the 140-150 class range in this area. There is also some whitetail here in the B & C range. In addition to the whitetail population we also have one of the largest populations of mule deer in the state. In 2006 we only had one hunter that was unsuccessful on his mule deer hunt. We require that our hunters should a minimum 24 inch wide buck or better on this hunt. One of the advantages to hunting this area is clients may shoot a mule deer or whitetail with their tag.

In addition to the whitetail and mule deer hunting we also have some of the best elk in the state. We hunt a series of ranches close to where Chuck Adams harvested his World Record bull. Elk trophies in this area will be in the 300-400 class. The units that we hunt in allow us a guaranteed tag for the archery elk but a draw is required for rifle hunters. Draw success rates are around 50%. The unit we are currently hunting elk in is unit 590.

Finally, we also have some of the best upland game bird and waterfowl hunting available in the state. We have a 60 thousand acre ranch currently under our control that has over 40,000 acres in CRP management. The ranch is full of Huns, grouse, pheasant and sage grouse. The terrain is very negotiable for older clients or for clients that are not in the best of shape.
